The Provincial Grand Lodge of Jersey recently presented three Jersey charities with donations totalling £44,000 to aid their response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. The awards comprised donations from local Freemasons together with matched funding and a grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation Covid-19 fund.
Jersey Shelter Trust received £24,000 to help fund opening and operating an additional site to meet a 25% increase for safe accommodation as a direct consequence of Covid-19.
The Jersey Women’s Refuge and Jersey Homeless Outreach Group each received £10,000 to help meet the increased demand for their services and additional expenditure resulting from the pandemic.
Provincial Grand Master Graham Spence said “To be able to have made these significant donations only halfway into our charity year is a remarkable achievement and a credit to the generosity of our members and the support received from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. These grants will help make a difference to those in our community negatively impacted by the pandemic. We are most grateful for the hard work of our Provincial Almoner, Richard Gallichan, in coordinating the grant applications and liaising with the charities concerned, which has been especially challenging under coronavirus restrictions”
