Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord
There are three Grades which are worked by a Consistory with a further three beyond the Chair.
The regalia is relatively modest and thus inexpensive; the ceremonies are very striking and, indeed, quite memorable, recalling the stories of Rahab and Ruth and reinforcing other chivalric ideals.
The Order is open to Craft Masons who are also subscribing members of the Order of the Secret Monitor
Since the Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord was established as a Sovereign Order on the 21st July, 2010 it has made remarkable progress through the British Isles and will shortly have a presence in Jersey. A new Consistory named Le Couperon Consistory No 110 will be consecrated in Jersey on Friday 25th September, by the Grand Summus (Grand Master).
The Order was previously in existence in England some 100 years ago and fell into disuse following the effects of the Great War. Its re-establishment is due almost entirely to the efforts of Most Distinguished Companion Peter Glyn Williams who, as the former Grand Supreme Ruler of the Order of the Secret Monitor, set up a number of Consistories under the banner of that Order which continued until July 2010 when the sovereign Grand Senatus was erected and established with Most Distinguished Companion Michael William Guest as its first Grand Summus.
The present Grand Summus, Most Distinguished Companion Andrew Christopher Sweeney, has expressed a wish for representation within the Channel Islands and Eminent Companion David Rosser, assisted by Eminent Companion Ken Rondel, has submitted a Petition to the Grand Summus for a new Consistory to be formed in Jersey with twenty Petitioners as Founders. The Petition has received approval.
The name of the Consistory derives from "Le Dolmen du Couperon" in the Parish of St Martin and,as a Neolithic Monument made from standing stones, will find an affinity with Mark Masons as forming that "spiritual edifice" clearly explained in the Mark Degree.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of this noble Order should register their interest with the Organising Recorder, Em Comp David Rosser, who maintains a List of Applicants for future membership.
