Update on Decorating and Building Works - 1st September 2016
Main Temple
Redecoration of the Temple is substantially complete. The Past Masters boards and other fixtures shall be replaced over the coming weeks, following which the lighting shall be 'tuned' and final snagging completed. The use of oil-filled candles is to be phased out and eventually replaced by LED candles of suitable design, but as an interim measure beeswax candles are the preferred option. The oil candles leave a sooty/oily deposit on walls, paintings and furniture.Ante Room
Redecoration is substantially complete with furnishings and fixtures to be replaced in the near future. New light fitting on order.Robing Room
This room has been partially redecorated and shall be completed following 'breakthrough' to provide access to the new Provincial Room. New light fittings are on order.Stairwells and Lobbies
Redecoration of these areas shall be ongoing until the end of September and Brethren are urged to take due care. Investigations revealed substantial structural failures which have been permanently and appropriately repaired, but which have impacted on completing the redecoration.Dining Room
This has been returned to use.New Bar
Work to complete and redecorate the new bar area should be completed within the next two weeks. A temporary bar facility is provided in the dining room.Cloak Room
A new cloak room with adequate hanging space for coats is being constructed in the lobby. Please note that the old cloakroom area is now part of the catering/caretaking contract designated area and out of bounds.Wheelchair Access
Temporary wheelchair access is provided from the new car park entrance via the new extension. It is recommended that those using this access/egress are accompanied. This access is available after 5.30 each day.Notice Boards
New notice boards are to be provided in strategic locations as redecoration work is completed. Brethren are asked to refrain from sticking notices etc. to paintwork or decorated areas.Washroom Facilities
Pending completion of the new extension, ladies are using the disabled toilet on the first floor.Building Work
The new extension has reached first floor level and is scheduled to be completed by the year end, following which decoration and fitting out shall take place.New Catering Contract
The new contract is now in place. Whilst the new staff are coming to terms with the specific requirements of each Order, those responsible for ordering meals are asked to liaise with the Catering Manager to ensure the required table settings and serving arrangements are agreed and understood. The Temple Company wish to thank everyone for their continued forbearance and co-operation whilst the remainder of these extensive works are in progress.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL MEMBERS - UPDATED 22nd AUGUST 2016
The following advice affects everyone involved with planning meetings and dining at Stopford Road. The internal redecoration and building works are on schedule to have the main Temple and dining room back in service for 1st September. Internal work shall continue until the end of September, which is per the schedule, and during this time access may be limited and due care must be observed. The external repair and redecoration work is on programme for completion around the end of September and the building extension for completion around the year end.
Please note that available space for committee meetings is presently limited. Secretaries / Scribes / Recorders are therefore strongly advised to review calendar dates and arrange the timing of their committee meetings / rehearsals to avoid conflict of interest for available space. The old Provincial Room is now a bar area with table / chairs for use as a meeting room pro tem and when not in use as a bar. The new Provincial Room will be available for use early in 2017. The dining room may also be utilised when not serving its primary purpose and Bro. Geoff Morris has kindly made the Library available as a meeting room, subject to 24 hours' notice. The Upper Temple is currently in use as a storage area, but will be progressively cleared as items are returned to their substantive home.
New cloaks facilities are being constructed in the downstairs hallway, but please note that the old cloak room and storage room are now part of the caterer's secure storage area and are out of bounds.
The works this summer have followed an ambitious and extensive programme with many legacy issues causing disruption to schedules. However, much to the credit of all involved the overall programme remains on plan and it is already obvious that the end result will be a building and facilities in which we can all take pride and enjoy using.
The Temple Company directors wish to thank everyone who has assisted this summer, often at short notice, nd those who have volunteered to help reinstate the multitude of fixtures, fittings, portraits and banners. The directors also wish to thank everyone else in anticipation of their continued patience and understanding whilst the remainder of this year's work programme is completed.
The ongoing work means that the new catering contractor will not have full facilities available for the first few weeks of operation. Again our members patience, cooperation and understanding are essential to ensure the new arrangements bed in and we resume 'service as usual' within the shortest possible time.
Should you have concerns, or if an issue arises, please make every endeavour to resolve matters at the time. If this is not possible, for whatever reason, please contact your Lodge Temple Company director who will take things forward.
