ADVERSE WEATHERShould the situation arise where, due to adverse weather conditions, there are insufficient Brethren gathered to hold a regular Lodge meeting, the following procedure should be adopted.
A minimum of five Brethren must be present before a Lodge can be opened or a degree worked. Of these five (excluding the Tyler and the candidate for the degree in question) two must be members of the Lodge and one an Installed Master. [See Rule 119 BofC.] If the required quorum is not present, the Lodge may not be opened and the meeting must be abandoned.
A statement must be entered in the Minute Book recording the fact. A suitable form of words would be 'The meeting of the Lodge on xxxxxday the xxth of xxxxxx 20xx was duly called in accordance with the attached summons. Owing to adverse weather conditions (or whatever other reason may be the case) the required number of Brethren to open the Lodge could not be assembled and the meeting was abandoned.'
Please note: A meeting cannot be canceled in advance of the day or time of the meeting; it may only be abandoned in the light of circumstances prevailing at the time for which it had been summoned. Such an abandonment does not affect the Lodge's continuity of working. It would be necessary for a Lodge not to meet for a year for this condition to register.
